Dua Ormas Besar Islam Satu Suara, Soeharto Layak Dihormati Sebagai Pahlawan
Two Great Islamic Organizations One Voice, Soeharto deserves respect as a hero
Jakarta – Support for the granting of the title of National Hero to the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia Soeharto grew stronger. This time, two figures from major Islamic organizations, Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), expressed appreciation for the government’s move to assess Suharto’s great services in the history of the nation’s struggle and national development.
Chairman of the Library and Information Council The Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah, Dr. Makroen Sanjaya, considered that Suharto’s figure needed to be seen in a complete and comprehensive manner, not just from one side of history.
“Muhammadiyah has studied from his character as the 2nd President, we assess the figure comprehensively, not in pieces. After we have examined, since the time of the independence revolution, he has made the greatest contribution to the nation,” he said in a dialogue on a television station on Sunday (9/11).
Makroen explained that Suharto had an important role from the revolution until his leadership in the New Order era.
“If we mention the figure of the 2nd President of Indonesia, Mr. Soeharto, since 1946 has contributed, at that time history recorded there was a kind of coup carried out by the left, Pak Harto as a military could overcome it. Not to mention during the March 1 general attack in Yogyakarta. until then G30S/PKI, he was the main figure who could solve the problem,” he said.
Not only that, he assessed Suharto’s achievements in agriculture and the economy, making Indonesia recognized by the world.
“We can achieve food self-sufficiency and be recognized by the world, until he spoke at the FAO forum,” he explained.
Makroen also emphasized the importance of appreciating the services of the nation’s leaders.
“If we as a nation only look for mistakes and shortcomings in the past, we will not move forward,” he added.
In the same place, Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) figure KH Arif Fahrudin considered that Soeharto and Gus Dur both contributed greatly to their respective times and fields.
“These two figures depict two quite different situations, but in the same frame,” he said.
He believes that a nation that is not good at appreciating the services of its predecessors will lose direction.
“If he is not good at appreciating the services of the founding heroes of this nation or anyone who has contributed to the country, then he will not be good at being grateful for the existence of this country,” he said.
According to him, respecting the services of Soeharto and other national leaders is a form of gratitude and moral capital towards Golden Indonesia 2045. (*)
